Yes, My Blog Blinked

I didn’t post a blog entry last week, but not for lofty reasons such as concern for privacy or the urge to write a full-blown essay. The truth is, I’ve been fighting a nasty cold. Moi? Ms Healthy Lifestyle? Yes, moi.

I woke up on March 26 with a throat tickle that I promptly forgot about in the busyness of the day. By bedtime, my throat was raw and my nose stuffy.

I began a personal inquisition to determine how I had allowed myself to get sick, lash at the ready. Had I remembered to drink enough water every day. I couldn’t remember. Whap with the lash! Had I used the weather as an excuse to walk less than usual? Yes, I had. Whap! Whap! Had I gotten careless about eating enough fresh fruits and vegetables? Well, perhaps. Whap!

After several sleepless hours of self-flagellation, it occurred to me that I should do something for my sore throat, like gargle with salt water and take a spoonful of honey as my mother used teach. I trundled off to the kitchen to heat the kettle and find the honey. When I got to the bathroom with my gargle water, I opened the medicine chest and found old standbys like echinacea, Vitamin C, and Ricola lozenges. I helped myself to all three.

Then I spotted the oil of oregano. That’s been my go-to each time I’ve felt a cold threatening for several years. I’ve haven’t had one in more than two years. Why didn’t I take a drop the first morning when I noticed the tickle? Preoccupied with an issue I’m trying to work through. Whap! Whap!

A few days later, my naturopath provided herbal strategies for comfort and healing and a shift in perspective about my immune system. She said it will get stronger by fighting a cold from time to time. Also, an immune system that is overactive, that never lets the teensiest germ take hold, can actually be a bad thing if it starts to attack the body’s own tissues and create an autoimmune condition like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. So, according to her, it’s a healthy sign that I have a cold.

I need to remember this. And I must be kinder to myself. When I regain my strength and start my spring cleaning, I intend to dispose of that lash in the trash.

I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost

go for a paid option? There are so many choices oout there that I’m completely confused ..
    Any tips? Cheers!
